1-series coupe
A
significant model in the BMW Pavilion
was the 1-series coupe which attracted
everyone with a notepad or camera.
Designed as a 2+2, it offers a fresh
alternative to the conventional three and
five-door models. The 123d on display uses a 204 bhp four-cylinder variable twin-turbo diesel
which can return 54.3 mpg and manages to reach 60 mph in 7 seconds. Other options
include the 177 bhp 120d which offers a more frugal 58.8 mpg. Or for those of
you that want more in terms of performance, but not fuel economy, then the
135i, which is distinguished by its modified M Aerodynamics Package,
has no less than 306 bhp, and an M3 baiting 0-60 mph time of
5.3 seconds. BMW claims this model is ‘an
up-to-date interpretation’ of the BMW
2002 Turbo. The range kicks off with the
120d at £21,585, the 123d at £24,855 or
the range topping £29,745 135i – making
it £6000 cheaper than the equivalent
3-series coupe. As we went to press, the
wraps had just come off the convertible
version too – more next month.
