Toyo
The Toyo R1R has been designed to offer everything that the occasional motorsport competitor is looking for. It offers decent on-track characteristics, but is also 100% road-legal. In terms of performance, the R1R is an intermediate between Toyo’s Proxes T1R and Proxes R888. It has an advanced racing casing design and increased contact patch area to provide excellent handling and traction, both on everyday roads and competition circuits. Toyo’s on-track experience and extensive technical knowledge also helped to develop this tyre’s new compound mix of highly-reinforced carbon black, silica and polymers for great high-speed stability and tons of grip. You can order R1R tyres from a number of appointed UK dealers, including Camskill performance (www.camskill.co.uk), where they’re available from £108
Kumho
A lot like the Toyo R1R, this tyre from Kumho is E-marked road-legal but can also be used for track days, sprints and hill climb events. In fact, it’s already proven its credentials on the track as it has been used as the control tyre for various one-make race series’ (including Kumho’s BMW challenge). The Ecsta V70A has an advanced directional tread design, which is said to offer superior acceleration, braking and cornering. Its large lateral and centre channels are also said to allow for maximum water dispersion. On the inside of the tyre, the V70A has two wide steel belts to provide excellent cornering power and a stable footprint, while two durable nylon plies are said to give excellent high-speed stability. Kumho’s Ecsta V70A can be order from Demon Tweeks, where they’re priced from £105.94 each. Call Demon Tweeks on: 0844 815 8610 or go online: www.demon-tweeks.co.uk
Hankook
The Hankook Z211 is another road-legal racing tyre that was originally designed as an autocross tyre, but which can also be used for track days – especially over winter when it’s just as likely to be wet as it is dry. The asymmetric tread design of the tyre features a large, continuous tread block as well as large non-continuous water channels. Its standard tread depth of 5.5mm promises excellent grip and sure-footed handling (even in damp, slippery conditions) as well as fantastic feel. The Z211 is available in a wide range of sizes too, suiting most BMWs. Ears Motorsport is currently offering a number of deals where four tyres can be delivered to your door from as little as £481.99. Find out more by calling: 01625 433773. Yokohama
According to Yokohama, this tyre is intended to bridge the gap between the Advan Sport, which was designed specifically for the needs of high performance road cars, and the Advan A048, a road-legal track day tyre. The AD08 takes its design from the Advan Neova AD07, but is said to boast much more in terms of quality and performance. The new tread pattern, for starters, is said to function far better in both wet and dry conditions thanks to its redesigned shoulder blocks. The Advan AD08 is available in over 30 sizes, ranging from 15- to 19-inch applications. An axle set of tyres through the online shop www.blackcircles.com are priced from £111.18. You can find out more about these Advans by going to Yokohama’s official website (www.yokohamatire.com)
