I had to remove the sunroof cassette on the E36 when ETA Motorsport fitted the weld-in cage, and although a bin liner held on by duct tape is undoubtedly lightweight, it’s ugly, wind buffeting was terrible, and of course, the scrutineers wouldn’t approve of it. It’s possible to weld the existing metal cassette back in place minus the mechanism, but then I was told of M S Motorsport (www.raceparts.biz), which is based local to Brands Hatch. It provides the full spectrum of GRP and carbonfibre parts for BMWs, including a new line of E36 sunroof replacements that are constructed from a blend of GRP and 2x2 twill carbonfibre.
