Winter was on its way, but my Continental 225/55 16 cold weather treads from last year had no wheels to cling on to, as these were now back on the E39 Touring (currently up for sale) fitted with regular all season tyres. Classified trawling revealed sets of 16s, but most were the ‘Turbine’ style which I already have on the Touring and they are a nightmare to clean and aren’t much to look at. I trawled the classifieds and called Mark at wheel emporium, BM Auto Sport, but he had annoyingly just sold what I was looking for, the ‘Radial’ design. Then online, I found a set of Style 25 wheels that were described as ‘E39 fitment’. I remember these being on earlier models, so I got bidding and won the set for very little money. They were relatively local, and given the low winning bid, upon collection I didn’t bother paying them much attention – they were round, which is always a good starting point, with little kerb damage.
